It happens to the best of us. You're walking home from school and realize you took a wrong turn...and you're lost! Well, what can you do to keep yourself safe?
Don't talk to just anyone. Look for somebody who has kids with them. They are most likely to be parents, babysitters, grandparents, etc. and may be able to help you.
Make sure you know what your street address is so that somebody can help you find your way home. It is also a huge help to know what your home phone number and parent's first names are.
DO NOT GET INTO A CAR WITH A STRANGER! Stay where a lot of other people can see you at all times. Also, don't go into people's houses unless they have children with them or a block parent sign in the window.
Create a "family password" with your parents. If somebody you don't know says that your mom or dad sent them to pick you up, ask them what the password is. Only people that you and your parents are close to and can trust should know the "family password". Never go anywhere with somebody who says they know your parents unless they know the password as well.
Never take candy, food, or other treats from strangers, no matter how nice they may seem. You can politely tell them you would not like anything and leave it at that.
