When you have a dog, it is very important to make sure he or she doesn't get too hot in the sun. When dogs are very hot, they pant to cool down. Sometimes they can get so hot that they can't cool themselves down and they can get very sick. There are some very simple ways you can make sure your dog stays cool in the summer heat.

• Keep a dish of fresh water outside for your dog and make sure it is always full.
• NEVER leave your dog in the car when it is hot outside. Dogs can die in just a few minutes in hot cars.
• If possible, get a wading pool for your dog and leave it full of water in the yard so he or she can cool off whenever needed.
• On very hot days, keep your walks short and bring extra water with you.
