YOUTH FOR A BETTER WORLD

Creative Writing Contest Winners

We would like to thank all those who participated in our Creative Writing Contest. We had some wonderfully written stories and it was hard to pick the winners. After much consideration, here are our winners:

1st PLACE
A Better World
by Rebecca Mallender, age 8

If I could really make a better world, I would stop war from taking over
other countries. There would be no bullies anywhere. There would be no more
robbers to steal things. Everybody would be fair to each other. The parks
would have no trash on the ground. The parks would be clean for children who go
there. Every little girl and boy would be safe every day. The world would be
a very good place. No more countries taking over any place where people live.
People would behave. Nobody would be bad because life would be great for
everybody. There would be no bad words. If some people spoke a different
language everybody would know every language. Everybody would have the
same amount of money. If they spend their money on things they would just go
to the bank. Nobody would be poor. There would be malls, stores, grocery stores,
clothes stores, and lots more. Cars would be less money for people who know
how to drive. I would like to keep all of the holidays we have. There
would be schools for all children. Everybody would be friends with each other.
Animals would be safe from other things that might try to eat them. Plants would
be safe from people stepping on them and would be able to grow safe and peaceful.
I would make animals stay away from people who are afraid of them. Towns would
be very calm and nice. I would make it a better place for everyone. There would be
cars, bikes, limos, but no motorcycles because too many people get hurt. If I could
make the world, it would be fun for everyone. Every creature living on Earth
would be happy. That is my idea of a perfect world.

2nd PLACE
A Better World
by Autumn Laing, age 8

If I could make the world better, I would make every person safe every day.
It would be better if there weren't allergies. I would like it if there were
no wars and every country was safe. I wish there were no robbers in the world,
and no bullies. There would be garbage pails at every store in the world so that
people wouldn't litter. I wish that nobody would get hurt. I think that everyone
should be happy. There could be no bad words at all. If there were no bad people
it would be great. You could do anything without a problem. I think that
people would have a better life. That is my perfect world.

3rd PLACE
Snow White's Better World
by Taylor Brandie, age 8

Once upon a time, there was a princess named Snow White. She was not very
happy with how the world was. At lunch Snow White started to day dream. She
day dreamed about how the world would be if she could re-create it. She dreamed
that everyone was happy and never mad. Flowers and green grass covered the land
and all animals were free. There was no garbage on the ground. The land was
beautiful. We didn't need any more war so no soldiers would die. But we still
needed doctors and hospitals.
Once Snow White woke up it was dinner time. That night she started to dream
again. Snow White dreamed some more things about how the world would be. Now
she dreamed that there were no poachers and no robbers. The next night,
Snow White saw a star. She made a wish and in the morning when she woke up
she got dressed and looked outside. She saw her land and it looked like her dream.
She lived happily ever after.

Honourable Mention
A Perfect World
by Adam Robinson

One there was a world of no pollution, no terrorism, no robberies, and everything
was recycled! It was a world of peace in the year 3000. The technology was very
advanced. People used solar powered cars and solar powered houses, electric trains
and electric boats. Factories had special devices that stopped air and water
pollution. People didn't care about any aliens invading because the whole
world was surrounded by an electric force field. The world was peaceful because
people had hated all of the wars. Too many people had been killed. That's what I
think of a perfect world!

A Better World
by Cassidy Logsdon, age 8

If I could really make a better world, I would make it like this:

The houses would be beautiful. There would be lots of flowers. There would be no
wars because we wouldn't have to fight for peace. There would be no guns or
weapons. There would be solar powered cars. Nobody would be scared to go to other
people's houses because nobody would be mean. Everybody could trust everybody
in the world. There would be no terrorist attacks!!! There would be three hours of
school and no homework because after school is a time to play! School would start
at 10:00am and end at 2:00pm. Nobody would get sick. Everyone would live to be 100.
There would be a lot of animals. There would be no leg-hold traps or fur farms
because skinning animals is wrong! There wouldn't have to be protests because
everything would be good. There would be no bullies. There would be no trash
anywhere. People wouldn't get hurt. People wouldn't have to get divorced
because they would be nice to each other.
