Talia Haven rubbed her swollen cheek. She stared from where she was perched on her bed, across the room to her mother, Tess Haven.
She stood by the window, looking out it to the busy streets of Manhatten. The sounds of newsies yelling headlines, and everyone else hurrying to thir destinations rang through the city.
The mother turned to face her daughter. SHe rubbed her hand, which was sore from repeatedly striking the girl.
"I think now you will do as you are told." The girl lowered her gaze to the floor as her mother continued.
"You know, this hurts me as much as it hurts you. FOrtunately for you, I dont have the marks to show it!" she laughed. "Well, ta-ta duaghter. Tomorrow its back to the factory. I expect you to earn your stay here." she finished coldly, and stalked out of the room.
The girl curled up on her bed and cried herself to sleep.
The next morning the girl got up before her mother. She dressed quickly, and headed out the door. She didn't have to be at the factory for almost two hours, but she didn't want to face her mother.
She hurried along, keeping her head low, so people wouldn't see her bruised cheek. She wasn't paying attention to where she was going, and accidentally bumped into someone.
"Oh, soory miss," the boy appologized.
She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "Sorry." she quickly said and hurried away from.
"Wait!" he called out for her, but she kept on walking. He was concerned, she had a huge bruise on her face, but he decided to forget about her.
