This page is dedicated to a few of my Native American ancestors. Primarily the Kaskasian Tribe and the Illini Confederation.

Mamenthoüensa also known as Francois-Xavier Rouensa was Chief of the Kaskaskia ("Kaskaskahamwa") Tribe and Chief of the Illini Confederation.

His daughter Aramepinchone was also known as Marie Rouensa. Marie became a convert of Father Gravier, a French missionary of the Immaculate Conception Mission. Marie was buried under the floor of the Immaculate Conception parish church in Kaskaskia, as requested in her will. She was the only woman so highly honored.

The Kaskaskian Indians are now a part of the Peoria Tribe. The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Indian tribe which is composed of four smaller tribes: the Kaskaskia, Peoria, Piankeshaw, and Wea. These tribes, members of the Algonquin linquistic family were removed from their original lands in Illinois, first to Missouri, then to Kansas, and finally to the northeastern corner of the Indian Territory, now Oklahoma.
