It is clear from the start that this episode is not in the traditional VeggieTales style - there is no opening sequence of the VeggieTales theme song. "The Toy That Saved Christmas" is the heartwarming tale of how three vegetables and a toy come-to-life save Christmas by discovering its real meaning. They must teach all of Dinkletown that Christmas isn't about getting ... it's about giving, and especially about Jesus, the greatest gift of all.
The plotline is interesting, but doesn't pick up until the video's climax, when Mr. Nezzer discovers the four heros and tries to get rid of them. The animation is well done, as usual, and the music is in the fine VeggieTales tradition. The toy, Buzz-Saw Louie, is one of the best and most dynamic characters in the VeggieTales series.
"Oh, Santa!" is this episode's contribution to the legacy of "Silly Songs With Larry." It is well executed and hilarious, including the return of the Peach, a character introduced in "The Hairbrush Song" (Episode 3). Parents who wish to avoid teaching their children about Santa Claus, though, may want to explain the song to their kids or simply fast forward past it.
