SPARROWGRASS POETRY FORUM - Submittal form at site for all who wish to enter. Deadline for entries is January 31, 1998. Winners will be announced March 31, 1998 and all Prizes will be awarded promptly.Contest is judged on originality of ideas and sincerity of thought. All poems will be considered for publication in Treasured Poems of America, a national hardcover anthology of collected poetry.

Anhinga Press - Each submission must be accompanied by a $20 reading fee. Make checks payable to Anhinga Press.
Do not put your name on your manuscript. Instead, make two title pages--one with the manuscript title, your name, address and phone number, and a second title page with only the manuscript's title. Manuscripts must be 48-80 pages, excluding front matter. They may be single- or double-spaced, and all pages must be numbered. Please do not staple or bind your manuscript.
Include a self-addressed, stamped, #10 envelope for notification of contest results.
Submissions will be accepted from January 1 until March 15. Manuscripts received prior to January 1 or postmarked after March 15 will be recycled and the entry fee returned.
Manuscripts will not be returned. Please keep copies of your work.

It is a very easy site to navigate through and the directions for submitting under the heading "Poetry Submissions" at the above address.

Wind Literary Awards - Wind Publications sponsors three annual literary competitions:
Wind Short Fiction Award(http://www.lit-arts.com/wind/contests/fictguid.htm) The Wind Magazine Short Fiction Award of $500 and publication in Wind Magazine is presented for the best short story of less than 5000 words.

Allen Tate Memorial Award - The Allen Tate Memorial Poetry Award of $500 and publication in Wind Magazine is presented for the best poem of less than 100 lines.

QuentinR.Howard Poetry Prize - The Quentin R. Howard Poetry Prize is presented for the best chapbook manuscript submitted. The winning poet receives $100 and 25 copies of their published book.

Cader Publishing,Ltd - Iliad Literary Awards: Contest deadlines: March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31. Late entries will automatically be enrolled into the next competition.Quarterly open-style competition. 4-$1,000 grand prizes and 396 other prizes, annually.Poems are limited to 30 lines and essays to 300 words. No purchase or entry fee is required for the first two(2) entries in any quarterly competition.
Youth Awards Program : Quarterly open-style competition. 4-$200 First Prizes, 4-$100 Second Prizes, 4-$50 Third Prizes, annually.The Youth Awards Program is designed for writers under twenty-one (21) to encourage writing among our youth.. Submit poetry (30 line limit) and Prose (300 word limit) by March 31. There are instructions on how to enter by mail and by email.

Internet Writer's Guild Competition- All entries must bear the title "The Ending", and deal with this topic in some way. They will be judged on their individual merit by an anonymous panel of Guild judges, results of the competition to be announced in late February, 1998. The competition close on the 31st of January, 1998. All entries must be sent, as an attachement via email, to kennsj@ozemail.com.au.

History Poetry Competition - This contest is open to poets, researchers, and historians alike, who have written poems which promote, generate, and rekindle interest in history and its many valuable lessons. History themes may include - but are not limited to - recorded historic events, explanation of historic events, biography, narrative, comedic, historical concerns, or other themes. Deadline is March 15th for the Spring Competition.

Zuzu's Petals Fifth Annual Twice-Yearly Poetry Competitions - Poetry of any style/ any length/ any subject is welcomed. Their only criteria is excellence and originality of thought. Deadlines are March 1st and September 1st every year.

Angelwing's Heavenly Skies: Poetry Contest - This site promotes creativity and the power of the written word. Contest Entry Period: Nov. 10, 1997 to Jan. 10, 1998. The winners will be featured at the Poetry Corner for a month.

The Poetic Link - Weekly Poetry Contests are conducted with cash prizes awarded every week.

Blue Mountain Arts Poetry Contest - Poetry Card Contest - deadline: February 20th, 1998. We're looking for original, unique poetry on such themes as love, friendship, and achieving your dreams.


The Allegheny Review, now in its 16th year of publication, is America's only nationwide literary magazine exclusively for undergraduate poetry and fiction. Published every spring, the periodical showcases some of the best literature the nation's undergraduates have to offer. The Allegheny Review also welcomes submissions of artwork that may be reproduced in printed form [b/w photography, pen and ink or charcoal drawings, etchings, etc.].

Submission Guidelines:

Fiction: Not to exceed 15 pages, double-spaced
Poetry: 3 to 5 poems

Contributors:
College undergraduate students only

Prizes:
$50 awards for the best entry in poetry and fiction.

How to Submit:
* Submissions must be postmarked no later than February 1, 1998
. * All work must be typed and accompanied with name, address, school
name. A cover letter detailing experience is helpful but not necessary.
