In October 1999 the company 800-TREKKER issued a press release stating
that they would be donating $5,000 worth of Doctor Who novels to interested
public libraries,
Doctor Who fan clubs and charities. Following this exciting announcement, UNIT's founder Bill Albert contacted
800-TREKKER and told them a little about UNIT and what we do (email discussions,
meetings, volunteering for PBS pledge drives, etc.) Bill heard back from
them almost immediately.
The end result was a donation of 75 Doctor Who books to UNIT, including
1 hardcover and 74 paperback novels! This is a great opportunity for Doctor
Who fans, as newer fans now have access to the Virgin New and Missing Adventures,
that may not be available elsewhere. Over the years there have also been
several member donations of TARGET novels for those who want to take a look
back the beginnings of Doctor Who in print.
UNIT members Jeremy Bement and Jeff Elston have also generously offered their
own Doctor Who book collections to be available to borrow! If you would like
to borrow any of these books, please contact:
