You'll Know It When You Blow It!

Theresa and Elise head for the rest room right after English class. There Theresa begins to talk and joke about Becky, a fellow student.
Elise joins in. The remarks get louder and more obnoxious. "Did you see that excuse for a dress she's wearing?" "It would help if you would wash her hair at least once a month."
This goes on nonstop for five minutes. Suddenly the girls realize that Becky is sitting in one of the stalls!

Look It Up~ Sometimes embarrassment comes from sin. You do something wrong, and you get caught. It's that simple. The Bible gives a crystal-clear example of this sort of embarrassment-the story of Adam and Eve.
When the first couple disobeyed God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, "The eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
"Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of te garden. But the Lord God called to the man, 'Where are you?'
"He answered, 'I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid'" Genesis 3:7-10.

Think It Through~ Have you ever been in a situation like the one involving Becky? Put yourself in Elise's shoes. How would you feel? What would you do? How might Elise have stopped the situation before it got out of hand?

Work It Out~ List all the possible embarrassing consequences of:
* Throwing a party while your parents are gone.
* Cheating on tests or assignments at school.
* Lying to your parents.
* Driving recklessly.
* Getting sexually involoved.
* Shoplifting.
If you regularly do one or more of these things and you think you'll never get caught, ask yourself, "Suppose my luck runs out. Is this really worth the potential embarrassment?"

Nail It Down~ Read in Genesis 45:1-5 how Joseph avoided possible embarrassment by asking certain people to leave the room.
