They started playing at a place called "the Casbah Club", where they got in touch with the owner´s son Pete Best who was a drummer in another Liverpool band. When the Beatles got a job in Hamburg, Germany, Paul called Pete and asked him if he wanted to join them since they needed a drummer. Pete accepted and everything was set.
They went to Hamburg in 1960 and started to play evenings in a little club. They slept in the back of a movie theatre. Every night they got better and better, and they got more secure on stage. This is where they got all their practice on stage. Even though I bet they had a lousy deal, the tough nights on stage must have done a lot of good and been really useful later on. I´d just jump if I got the opportunity they got then, what an experience.
When they got better they got to play at a bigger club where they alternated with another Liverpool band, called "Rory Storms and the Hurricanes". They became friends with them and especially good friends with the drummer, Ringo Starr...
While the others returned to Britain Stu decided to stay in Hamburg with his German
girlfriend. He died there in her arms only a few years later.
