ON THE PETITION of Michael Finfrock in right of his wife Elizabeth daughter of Peter Rees died intestate since the 19th day of April 1794, seised in his demesne as of Fee of and in a plantation and tract of land situate in Martick township Lancaster County adjoining lands of John Graff Jacob Traeger, Henry Shaub and Christian Musser, containing twenty eight acres more or less, with two messuages thereon erected, leaving a widow named Catherine and eight children, to wit, Henry, Andrew, Jacob, Peter, Daniel and John, and Catherine intermarried with Issac Peters and Elizabeth intermarried with the Petitioner of whom Daniel and John are minors; (for whom John Graft, Swamp)is guardian) That the petitioner is desirous of having his share in right of his wife ascertained in the estate by an Inquest to be awarded by this Court," It is ordered by the Court, that the Sheriff of this County do forthwith summon an Inquest to view the said premises and make partition thereof between the widow and all the children of said deceased if the same can be done without predjudice to and spoiling of the whole. But if they find that the same cannot be so divided, that they then enquire and report how many the same will as aforesaid accomodate; describing each purpart by metes & bounds & returning a just valuation and appraisement thereof. But in case partition cannot be made between all the children aforesaid; nor the said premises accomodate more than one of the said children, that they then value and appraise the whole premises, agreeably to law; That legal notice of the time and place of holding such Inquisition be given to all the parties interested, or their legal representatives, that they may be present if they think proper; and that Report of the said proceedings be made to the next Orphan's Court to be held at Lancaster on the third Monday in June next. Here is another take on the Fünfrock lineage Larry Ames has a Fivecoat in his family tree also. His research has turned up the following: The name Fünfrock is composed of two German words: Fünf = five and rock which is derived from the Old High German hroc meaning a long men's overcoat (from which we get the word frock). The following history was researched by Ellen Stanton of West Des Moines, IA. Three young men came from South Germany by steerage passage sometime between the late 1600's and early 1700's. They were very poor and were indentured by merchants at Farmersburg and Philadelphia for 2 years to pay for their passage. These 3 young men were the Fünfrock brothers. After the end of their 2 year indenturement, 2 of the brothers migrated south. George Henry Fünfrock (the 3rd brother) took the Wilderness Trail north and crossed the Ohio River into Ohio at Steubenville. George Henry Fünfrock Americanized his last name to Fivecoats thinking it an improvement. He was the only one of the brothers to Americanize his name, the other 2 remained Fünfrock. He married and settled into Harrison County, Ohio. One of his descendants, a George Fivecoats, worked on the Eerie Canal. He married a woman named Rachel, and moved to Dover Hill, IN, where they had 3 children: a son (named either Patrick or Michael), and 2 daughters, Rachel and Sarah Catherine. Rachel never married and is buried with her parents at Dover Hill, IN. Sarah Catherine Fivecoats married John Mansfield Chaney, Sr. The brother married and had at least 2 girls named Edyth and Bertha. He may also have had other children.
