Dear Ancestor,
You made your mark on this great nation, and left your footprints in time.
We may never know why you came, and in some cases where you came from,
but come you did. You had the courage and spirit to look at the horizon and move
continually westward. You crossed over mountains, through forests, ferried across
rivers, waded through marshes and swamps, confronted bears, mountain lions,
wolves, and Native Americans in your quest to find somewhere to call home.
I am tracing those footprints you left, some are still very visible, while some I have to
dig a lot to bring them to the surface. I am giving my all to preserve those footprints,
your memory, for your descendants who now inhabit much of the land you had the
courage to explore and settle.
Your GgggggGranddaughter,
Nancy
