THE PIONEER CEMETERY

The original cemetery was established in the 1850's. After a flash flood washed out most of the graves, the cemetery was relocated north of the original. The bodies from the flash flood were re-buried in the new cemetery in a mass grave, since identification was impossible. The G.I.S. has recorded some of our best EVP's here. This location is known by local residents for being haunted. Even one of the small town's sheriffs told us about a young boy's ghost that has been seen in this cemetery where the boy is buried. His ghost has also been witnessed by town's people on the road where he was struck by a car and killed. We have had numerous experiences here, and one of the most memorable was the night that two G.I.S. members witnessed a large, dark, hunched-over figure gliding through the cemetery. Jenny, one of The G.I.S. members who saw it recalls that "it wasn't very pleasant."

She and G.I.S. member Roger had decided to walk along one of the roads of the cemetery. It was around 10:30 at night, and there was a chill in the air, but the weather was clear. G.I.S. member's Brendan and Barbara decided to stay with Barbara's newly acquired infrared video camera, which was on a stationary tripod, and monitor any possible ghost activity which might be following Jenny and Roger as they walked away.

As Jenny and Roger were walking, Jenny noticed something huge and dark, quickly moving silently and smoothly off to her right, between two large trees. She quickly whispered to Roger, "Do you see that?". Roger quickly looked in the direction that she was, and he also saw this large dark figure, silently gliding through the cemetery. They both later recalled that it was moving at an angle, away from them through the cemetery, and that there was no arm or body movement. They both said that the best way to describe it was that it looked like Darth Vader in silhouette, as far as any kind of shape. Of them, neither could see legs moving, nor could they tell if it was touching the ground, but it was definitely extremely tall and large. They also collaborated and agreed that the speed which this figure was gliding was quite frightening, as there is nothing that we can attribute, neither animal nor person, that could glide as swiftly as this thing did, and not move anybody parts, unless it was on wheels. (This has to be ruled out, because the cemetery grounds are on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and so it's on a gradual slope. This figure was moving up the slope, which is against the gravitational pull for wheels to be involved.) Both Jenny and Roger watched this large dark figure until it disappeared or blended into the darkness at the end of the road - directly in front of where they stood. (A small building sets at the end of this particular road.) Roger recalls that he felt intimated just from the size of this dark silent figure, and both agree that they felt "creeped out" by it. They also had the impression, or thought, that this figure did not want them to approach it. Whatever it was, we will never know, but it was Jenny's introduction to this particular cemetery at night.
