Anguirus was Godzilla's first opponent. But he evently became one of Godzilla's most trusted allies. Not much is known on the origins of Anguirus. Many believe Anguirus is a member of the Ankylosaur family; a species of dinosaur.
Anguirus possesses no weapons other than tooth and claw. The majority of the monster is covered in a spikey carapace; a tricky road-block for an opponent monster. The carapace is also used as a weapon as seen in Godzilla Vs. Gigan. Anguirus stands on his hind legs and pushes himself backwards toward his adversary and impaling it. The top and back part of Anguirus' head is covered in a shield of horns designed to help protect the neck. The tip of his nose sports a horn used for combat. The mouth of Anguirus houses sharp teeth, which also help during battles. Although Anguirus is a quadraped, he will use his forepaws for self-defense and battling opponents.
Anguirus has fought against some of the greatest monsters in the Toho kingdom: Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla to name a few. His last encounter with Godzilla in Godzilla Raids Again, resulted in death at the hands of the monster king. But he was either revived or another one of its kind emerged later in the Showa series. He even participated in the climatic battle in Destroy All Monsters until Ghidorah jumped on him in submission. His encounter with Mechagodzilla would be one of Anguirus' most humiliating defeats. Although Mechagodzilla did break his lower jaw, Anguirus was able to get a few punches in himself.
Although Anguirus does not sport beams, rays, or missiles, he does have a tremendous fighting spirit and a never-say-die attitude. Anguirus is a dangerous opponent to any opposing monster, and will not back down.
