2000 All-Star Weekend

The HBL's 2000 All-Star Weekend was a rousing success. Besides it's being possibly the most well-attended event ever for the HBL, all the contests also happened to be very entertaining.

Below are some results of the day's events, with pictures forthcoming...

HORSE--The competitors included Ryan, PureSugar, Shooter, and Domino. However, Ryan and PureSugar ended up being eliminated, leaving Domino and Shooter to relive last year's "dunk contest". This year the outcome was different, though, as Shooter failed to repeat, with Domino taking this year's HORSE contest.

1-on-1 Tourney--Competitors included Joker, Jay, Ryan, KG and Dee. On one side, Jay beat Ryan and then Joker, who got the first round bye, to advance to the Finals. KG beat Dee by one point to advance to the Finals, where an exciting game between KG and Jay ensued. The score remained 4-4 for a few minutes as any basket by either player would have won the game, but Jay pulled it out by making the fifth basket to win the 1-on-1 tournament.

3-Point Shootout--A lot of players entered, with Domino and Shooter making the finals out of a field containing such threats as PureSugar, KG and Ryan. Although Shooter posted the best score of the prelims, he couldn't repeat as he fell one basket short of equaling Domino's score of 8 in the final round. 8/15, not bad!

Team-Up Tournament--KG and Brooke made mincemeat of the competition, quickly trouncing Joker and Beth. Meanwhile, Shooter and Lyssa advanced against Jay and Sara, only to forfeit the final game! Intimidation? Let's just say Brooke had Lyssa scared! Or maybe Shooter was intimidated by KG? Only they know for sure!

All-Star Game--The All-Star Game, pairing the Warriors and Titans against the Lightning and SabreCats, started with a bang. Domino and Shooter hooked up for 18 straight points, including some definite highlights, as they played 6 minutes of great basketball. But PureSugar and Dee couldn't continue the streak, as they gave up the lead almost entirely for the rest of the first half. Both had a three-pointer apiece, but Ryan and Joker outmatched them severely under the basket. In the second, it was close as Shooter managed to hit some big baskets to extend the lead going into the last six minutes. Then, Domino and Dee held the lead against Jay and Ryan's pesky defense to win the game!
