With the forthcoming fifth season of the HBL, my mind is flooded with anticipation. You see, after failed attempts at joining the league last year, I went into a state of shock. A state which I thought that I would never ever return from. Well, I was wrong.
Flashback--December (Give or take) 1999:
"Hey, Lee. Have you ever heard of the HBL?" says Jon, my faithful
and loyal sidekick at the time.
"The HBL? What the hell is that?" I replied ever so gracefully.
"Well, my inebriated companion, me, my Dad and my bros kinda sorta started
our own basketball league. This will be our fourth year this summer. And
well, I've seen you on the court." he said.
"So you don't want me to play?" I said.
"No, that's not it."
"You said you've seen me on the court."
"I want you to play."
WOW. My good buddy Jon just offered one of the worst basketball players
ever if he would like to join his little basketball association.
"Yeah dude that'd be awesome." I said as I ran to tell my close friends
and loved ones.
Flashback--March (Maybe) 2000:
It had been three months since my offer to join, and having gone through
some problems in the month of March, I decided it was in my best interest
not to play in the HBL. Thus, Ryan Pranschke was born.
It saddened me a little. I really wanted to be out there playing
basketball with my friends. And my friends' older brother and dad. But I
was a loser and decided to work for the summer. Good call Lee.
When Jon asked me again if I would like to be in the HBL this year, there was no doubt that I would play. My only barrier was work....and the fact that Jay scares me.
Just kidding.
After the hardcore hounding I kept getting from Jon, I figured it would be a
good time to talk to my boss about being able to play.
"Sure, why should I care? I'm not your mommy." she answered.
"Neat-O!" I screamed as I danced in front of the huge plate-glass window we
have at our little video store.
Flashback--NOW:
I really am excited to finally make my appearance in the HBL. I finally
get my chance to play basketball with my friends. And despite the fact that
he scares me, I have a new teammate in Jay. Again I am just kidding......
So anyway...I hope all of you are as pumped as I am. For you see, I am now
part of history. I am now part of a tradition.
I AM NOW PART OF THE HBL.
