Sean Fitzgibbon
The man credited with founding the Club in conjunction with the Aussie Rules Players back in 1991. Seans way of thinking was if the game is to be promoted properly in Sydney it must be taken to the locals which is why the Club was founded in a brave attempt to do this. Many Irish were receptive and encouraging to the Aussie newcomers but many many others dismissed them as a bunch of no hopers and dreamers and just hoped they would go away! Despite this attitude among some Sean continued to recruit players from the local Sydney community bringing in Australians, Irish, New Zealanders, Maltese, English, Italians, Croations, Lebanese etc etc. Despite the lack of experience of many of these lads up against the five Irish teams they continued to field every weekend. The early days were extremely tough but Sean carried on relentless forever introducing more and more locals to the great game. He was P.R.O. for the NSW.GAA in 1994 but his main role was chief organiser for the then "Young Australians GFC" as Secretary and acting Manager rallying the exhausted troops to continue despite the odds. He also took the role as organiser of Fund-raisers, Harbour Cruises, Club BBQs etc etc. In 1994 Sean secured a deal with Guinness Australia to Sponsor the club whom were very receptive to the clubs policy in embracing local Sydneysiders and Gaelic Football. In 1995 he was instrumental in bringing about the clubs Ladies Team of which had a troublesome start due to false promises and lack of numbers but despite this the girls did eventually take off and are now an extremely vital cog in the engine room of the club overall. Sean has also designed all the clubs uniforms over the seasons and the stationary etc and also the NSW State teams uniforms. The call of Gaelic Football has certainly kept him busy over the years.
Nowadays Sean has been forced to scale down his activities with the club committee due to his busy work nature as an Immigration Detention Officer and a Freelance Graphic Designer which limits his time to performing club duties. Still, he remains a passionate member of the Club and is still active on the committee.
He himself has been an extremely vital coq in the Clubs Engine Room.
