Notice that the "6" with double arrow is also in the background. The foreground "6" sign is redundant and by general Iowa DOT practice shouldn't even be there.

Much of 6 is marked as an "Emergency Detour" for I-80 in eastern Iowa. These signs drop off around the Amana Colonies but show up again in Pottawattamie County.

There are no mileage signs at this downtown intersection.

The odd quality of this picture is a result of my camera and its problems with reading light before I sent it in to be fixed. On the bright side, shade trees make a normal picture here hard.

Jason writes, "Here is the former south end of IA 70. Before an east bypass of Columbus Junction opened in 1995, there was no direct connection between IA 70 and 92; 92 went over 70 and traffic had to use two blocks of city streets to connect with 70."

Pay close attention to the Subway sign in the background. I took these pictures in May 2008, when standing water was in the ditches and part of the fairgrounds. A month later, the flooding was worse. MUCH worse.

Judging by the SUV parked by the Subway sign in my picture, the water is probably seven or eight feet high at the parking lot and at least five at the intersection itself. The Iowa River is supposed to be half a mile ahead, but decided to carve a new channel for a while.

Jason writes, "Green sign looking northward along Second Street north of 92; a right turn onto Walnut Street takes you to Main Street (old 70) after a block. The intersection of 2nd is marked by overhead blinking signals on 92." The southern part of Columbus Junction is a very hilly area.
Old SOUTH End: Stop sign, Market Street, Columbus City, Louisa County
Until 1995 70 went two miles farther south to end in Columbus City. Jason writes, "70 zigzagged through Columbus Junction before coming to an end in Columbus City. Mile marker 1 from this old segment is still standing; I followed it for a mile and wound up at the intersection with Market Street."

The speed limit sign after the stop sign marks the point where IA 70 began.
