Why I've chosen these pieces - My grandparents have a print of the Het Straatie painting on their living room wall. One of my favorite childhood daydreams involved making up people to live in the Het Straatje painting, and pretending they lived next to my grandparents. I love this painting (and claimed my grandfather's print as inheritance!) I choose this piece not because of any intrinsic artistic value, but because the (pretend) people in this painting are my friends! I want to learn more about this piece and the artist.
Bach's music epitomizes the Baroque era. The Brandenburg Concerts, although not mentioned in the textbook, constitute an important aspect of Bach's orchestral compositions. The quick tempo and lively-ness of Concerto Number 5 make it one of my favorites.
