Best Interview Ever !!!!!!
*
I have just gotten back from the best interview I've ever had in my life!!
I was really unsure about this one (and after getting two rejection letters my self-esteem really wasn't sure either!) The ad just said "part time music teacher". And the schools website was less than updated. BUT they called me for an interview and I went
It was good. I like what they are doing (they seem like everything i thought a charter school SCHOULD be before I started interviewing at charter schools!) The director seems like a real "go-getter" but she is honest about what she doesn't know (no micro managing!) Next year will be their second year as a charter school and they are struggling with all the start up "stuff" that comes with that.
It is still small and growing and working - as a charter school they are doing new things, and experimenting. That's the kind of thing I want to be a part of. It is exciting and spiffy!
The interview comittee of three (director plus two board memebers) was fabulous. It was like they wanted to talk to me instead of interragate me. I think I was able to let "me" come through (which has never happened in an interview - I'm always wearing my friendly, happy, try to be an extrovert mask that doesn't really work).
They seemed interested in the work I've done, and their vision for music would fit into what I want to do (part general music, part instrumental small group lessons) ALL a PART TIME GIG!!!!
So far I have successfully tempered my wanting-ness. I've been on interview comittees before, and I've watched the hiring process and I know there are a lot of things way out of my control (like who I'm related to, and politics an such!) I've wanted (REALLY WANTED) jobs before - going so far as to plan out how it all will work and what imagine the whole senerio in my head. I haven't done that yet. I'm almost afraid too because I don't want to ruin something that could be fabulous.
Oh yeah -- the best part of the whole thing was driving through "the tunnel" TOO COOL. It was like that car commercial where all the kids are singing and driving -- I liked driving through the tunnel!! (But the school is moving for next year, so I wouldn't get to drive through the tunnel for work - bummer!)
