Ms. Childs,
I enjoyed meeting you at Gertrude Smith's reception last Saturday. Our conversation regarding your program in arts administration intrigued me. I would like to meet with you again to further discuss graduate school. I'm also interested in discussing Saint Mary's University, as well as admissions procedures and financial aid. Finally, I am curious to know what career opportunities exist for graduates of the St. Mary's program.
My interest in the arts began with childhood music lessons. School plays, a set of oil pastels, and library books nurtured my artistic passions. I believe arts promote self expression, create awareness, and improve the quality of life. I chose to make the arts a central part of my life and work.
In 1998, I graduated from Central College with a degree in Music Education. Since then, I have been employed as an elementary school orchestra director. I believe education to be key in maintaining strong audiences for the arts. Eventually, I will combine management skills with my background in education. I want to strengthen outreach and education programs in the arts.
The Weisman Art Museum's educational programs model the type of work I'd like to do. Staff encourage exploration of the arts through interdisciplinary activities including dance and dramatic readings. Weisman strives to create relevant presentations for school children, families, and university students.
Once again, I enjoyed meeting you and am looking forward to speaking with you again. I am available to meet at your convenience, and will call to arrange a time.
Sincerely,
Julie VW
