Tae Kwon Do is a two thousand years old Martial Art Form that originated in Korea. It is based on the premise that self defense is an instinct. As a result, the origins of Tae Kwon Do date back to the earliest time of humanity. Evidence of Tae Kwon Do has been found in mural paintings for Royal Tombs, by archaeologists in 1935. These murals and tombs have been dated (by Historians) back to the Kokooryo Kingdom, which ranged between 3 AD and 427 AD. These Murals place Korean Martial Arts around two hundred years ahead of the Chinese Martial Art Forms practiced by Monks in the Shaolin Temples.

Some historians have established that Tae Kwon Do is the oldest Form of Martial Art in the world. Throughout the history of Korea , Tae Kwon Do has been called by many names: Soobak, Soobakhee, Soobyuk, Takkyeon, Beekaksool, Soobyukta, and Kwonbub. Tae Kwon Do has continued to grow and evolve as it was handed down from generation to generation. During the end of the Lee Dynasty and during the Japanese occupation of Korea, Tae Kwon Do seemed to fade away, but it's Spirit in Korea never died.

Tae Kwon Do started to revitalize during the restoration of Korea's independence. This took place after World WarII, when Japan's military was evicted from Korea after 36 years of occupation. Since that time, Tae Kwon Do has spread to almost every corner of the world. It has enriched lives, provided physical and spiritual discipline, and perpetuated a sense of tradition and values necessary for a strong society.....

The translation of Tae Kwon Do is basic and simple. Tae, meaning foot, Kwon, meaning hand, and Do, meaning Art or Way. So we would say...The way of the foot and hand, or, Foot Hand Art. Tae Kwon Do is comprised of hard hand strikes and blocks, and hard kicking techniques...but these are just the Basics. An experienced Tae Kwon Do Stylist can perform feats of Athleticism that simply amaze. Tae Kwon Do, similar in many ways to the Japanese Art, Karate, is considered a "Hard" Art Form because of the devastating, high impact strikes it utilizes in it's Forms. Breaking boards and bricks are part of the training schedule for both Art forms.

But Please, do not fall prey to the misconseption, that Tae Kwon Do, or any other Martial Art Form, for that matter, represents Violence, for it most certainly does not. Tae Kwon Do teaches it's practioners typical Eastern qualities of Respect, Devotion, Loyalty, Honor, perserverance, Focus, Diligence, and much more. The fact of the matter is, if Tae Kwon Do was practiced "properly" by the entire society, there would not be a need for the laws that govern us today. The self defense aspects of all Martial Art Styles are taught to be utilized only when you are in harms way, and there are just no other options left. Tae Kwon Do is an excellant Martial Art Form for the entire family to persue, and practice...it is not merely an Art Form...it is a way of life....
