Moving from 22 Wynyard street:

Selwyn got into dispute with his landlord when he was staying at 22 Wynyard street, during 1989. The sheriff issued him with a summons to be evicted. Not having anywhere to go, he then moved to his eldest sister, Desiree, who was then staying at lower mount street. He had no other option but to store all his household stuff. storage company, "de langes transport came with a big truck to load all Selwyn’s belongings, and stored it for a couple of months. Before he moved he was staying with about 10 youngsters from the nearby "Ginsberg" location. These youngsters use to pass his house on their way to the golf course to earn something for the day, working as caddies. Everybody was very sad when Selwyn broke the news that we were to be moving again. "Thembisa and Xoliswa" who was staying with Selwyn for some time also had to move. Both then stayed with "Thembisa’s mother for a while. After 3 to 6 months staying at lower mount street, before Selwyn left Wynyard street he was working for "Malcomess Toyota" for some time, hardly a yards throw away. He stayed just around the corner from work.

Selwyn and Lower Mount Street:

At Lower Mount Street, he stayed outside in the backyard in a "3m x 3m" shack for about 6 months. He was then working for a company called "August Laepple" as an inspector checking Mercedes Benz car parts. He and hendry weston and old time singer friend that stayed with him in old town, "Adam Jackson, was all working together at this company in "Berlin" close to King William's Town while staying at l/mount street he went to "old town every day after work until late night. At lower mount street he was hardly at home.

The Dimbaza show:

It was also at a December close down party at "Dimbaza", also close to King William's Town when Selwyn went straight from work, [a/laepple] to join the other players performing live at a "Dimbaza clothing firm. It was raining that day but the band rocked the crowd so much that it did not even matter. Selwyn remember "Patrick Zwane – bass, "Hendry Weston – drums, "Z. Solomon – lead guitar, "Banele Koinongo – keyboards, "Thembisa and Xoliswa" – backing vocals and Selwyn – main vocals. The ladies also sang some local stuff. Hendry also use to sing songs at shows, whils’t playing the drums.

He joined old time friends Raymond Tommy and Edwin Vockerodt, singing and playing the guitar. By then they liked to play their sounds among the ruins and half broken remains of the houses that was left after the eviction of all non whites from town. It always brought special memories to Selwyn, and like he always say’s, "Old Town will always be a part of him".

No. 3 Elizabeth Flats & 184 Buffalo Road:

he then moved to "No. 3 Elizabeth. Flats, just down the road. His two backing ladies then came to stay with him once again. It was also at these flats where he first saved Xoliswa‘s life and then Thembisa’s. Both took an overdose of some kind of poison. Like Selwyn says "they were almost like dead, through Jah help iman managed to save their lives". Both of them had boyfriend troubles.

Selwyn then moved to 184 Buffalo Road, just across the street from Elizabeth Flats. This house had big rooms. He rented it from the Kacnis family. This also meant better space for the band players. It was here at this house that players like Cory Toko joined the group. He could play a variety of instruments but could not play real roots reggae. Selwyn used a lot of patience with him, showing him the way it was supposed to be done. He also fixed faulty electricals around the band. Selwyn last saw him about 5 years ago. Percy Benjamin from Paarl met Selwyn 1987 when he was staying at Wynyard Street, in a semidetached house just next to Selwyn. Zama from Plettenburg Bay, a cripple guy who spoke to Selwyn by phone, wanted a position in the band. He played bass guitar for the group for about a year when he went back to Plettenburg Bay He moved with Selwyn from Buffalo Road to Alice Street.

Zama, a keen and serious bass player left King William's Town not because he wanted to, but because the other players once again stayed away after the last show of December 1993 at the queens hotel. He and Selwyn then decided that it was best for him to go home early 1994.

Frank from Cradock played drums alongside Zama both of them stayed with Selwyn at Alice street and left more or less the same time.

Caswell Jafta who grew-up with Selwyn in old town was always around until 1994 when he left to stay with his girlfriend at Ginsberg. He played drums. He’ll always be one of Selwyn’s closest buddies. The two of them had a very interesting history that‘s too numerous to mention right now.

The following shows was played during 1993:

The Florida German Hall show in East London:

While staying at Elizabeth Flats he played his last live show with the same team that played with him in the 1988 Shell Road to Fame show. The occasion was a coming together of eight bands. All funds was to be for the upliftment of local bands. They promised the group a certain amount of money, which was not much. Selwyn agreed to partake because of the reason behind it all.

The band left that Saturday afternoon to be in time for the show at 8pm. They arrived early and was surprised to know that the hall was out of town, in the bush. They sang and played the ordinary guitar while waiting to perform their program. Just before the show started a small meeting was called up for all the bands. No one besides Selwyn from Rainbow band went to listen to the organizers. A new decision was made. No one was now suddenly allowed to get payment for the show. They would only reimburse the groups for their transport costs. Selwyn did not fancy this and wanted to rather cancel Rainbow’s performance. The other band members was unaware of the happenings. Band members of the other groups asked him to please rather play the show. He decided to stay just for the sake of being a musician, just like them. Unfortunately time did not allow itself to give Selwyn a chance to tell his group what happened. They played just before the last group, "Otis D" a heavy metal group from East London All the bands performing was using their equipment. This was also where they usually practiced. They had fine equipment and everything was setup and tuned that made the sound blend in the bush.

Rainbow band opened their program with the well known hit "Roots," of Bob Marley As the music played Selwyn noticed the sound engineer from "Otis D" really getting into his thing. Rainbow never had the opportunity to have a sound engineer, mixing the sound while they played live. One could really hear the sound getting better all the time until it was just mellow the way it was meant to be. Everybody was getting mellow too. This most probably was Rainbow’s best performance. Looking at the crowd only, was enough reason to believe that everybody was enjoying the groove. Rainbow could proudly boast that they were the first reggae band that performed around there. During the show Selwyn saw that certain people was over excited and showed it openly that they almost could not believe that the group was really performing live. Hurriedly they went back to fetch a video camera and filmed the whole performance of Rainbow, without any consent from the group. After their performance the engineer gave Selwyn his address and phone number to contact him again as soon as possible. He wanted Rainbow to play a separate show with their group alone, in the near future. He asked Selwyn where they actually were from because they never thought that such a group was came from a small town like King William's Town. Sadly this was the last performance that this team had. The reason for this was because somehow one of the members spread the news that Selwyn did get paid for the show. Although Selwyn told them that he only got paid for transport, they still believed that he was guilty. It was only after some musicians from a Mdantsane band that played with him at this same show contacted him, that things changed. They wanted to know how things was with the band and when they were going to arrange another combination show. Very surprised, they heard that all the band members left the group. Selwyn was not aware about the groups schemes. He only learned afterwards what happened. The guys from Mdantsane could not accept the band split. They came down to King William's Town on a Sunday night and took two Rainbow band members from their homes with them, to give Selwyn an after midnight visit at the flats. They made it clear that they could never be at peace with themselves knowing that such a great band wanted to split over something foolish. Everybody heard that all bands was only reimbursed for transport costs and not a single cent more. Rainbow’s players felt ashamed and could only look down to the ground. They apologized but somehow never came back again. Like they say, "guilty conscience prick ya mind".

Selwyn one more time encountered a setback with his band. The second show that Rainbow was supposed to play with "Otis D" had to be given to "Selby and Thandi’s" group who just met Selwyn a while ago. So upset was Selwyn that he stayed home and only helped the new band with guitars and keyboards. They got paid for the show but gave Selwyn some story about the money. He told them they could keep it because he knew they had no income. They were also battling to make ends meet.

Selwyn met the engineer from "Otis d" sometime after that and had to explain why it was a different group that played the show with them. The guy could not believe that the band actually split for nonsense. He made it clear that the other group just could not match the first performance of the original Rainbow line up. The following musicians played with Selwyn at the: German hall.
