Where Stillness Lies

A work of art described
as pleasant
Flows easily
with no disturbance.
Joy breaks through
when deeper insight

SHORT CUTS TO AWARENESS - Significance

As the year progresses, we continue to include a series of personal reminders and suggestions for relaxation exercises and methods for uniting in communication with others.

Discovery is everywhere.

May these personal reminders give you the joy of discovery and enlightenment.

Each Short Cut best finds its enchantment if the exercises are performed in a quiet, relaxing space.

There are no "short cuts" if the path of awareness has not already been traveled. Each person's path is unique.

Choose a color to ponder. Find a piece of fabric, paper or other item of that color to gaze upon. Close your eyes and feel the color.

Mentally record what thoughts and inspiration comes to mind while meditating on that color.

PURPOSE: To discover the significance of color.

Communication - Group Gathering

When we have opportunity to prepare for a discussion with a particular group, we can move our focus to the level we desire to receive. By doing this, our level often affects others in the group, as well. Mindfulness is this connection through appreciation and understanding.

We have heard it said about a group gathering, "there was an electricity in the air when..." We see how perception can influence a group. It begins with one and quickly spreads to those who are receptive. One person can change the mood within a group. If that person's mood is unfavorable, the group will become listless, agitated and all the other unfavorable moods released by others in the group. If, however, one person has a pleasantly fragrant attitude and is attuned to it, the unfavorable will be weakened.

We know truth only by the turns of our own lives. Others know only their trails. One can interpret only one's own experiences.

How do we then communicate with such a diversity of interpretations?

We have heard the story of the three blind men who were led to an elephant, each being told to describe it. One touched an ear, another touched the tail, and the other touched the elephant's trunk. Their interpretations were quite different from those of the others, yet they were all three describing the same animal.

A friend suggests that in communication, it is significant to find what you have in common and cooperate or collaborate on that basis; agreeing to disagree about the rest.

When we hear a presidential address on television, there is usually a follow-up with a panel of people offering interpretation of what was said and not said. It is interesting to hear so many possible interpretations from what is possibly between the lines in politics. Even if we follow our own judicious reasoning, we are directly interpreting from what is not spoken, as well as what is said. We can avoid hearing these speeches but, just as with philosophy, we are influenced in our surrounding world by the philosophy of our leader, blended with the influence of other people in other branches of government.

We take these and all influences we receive, whatever the subject matter, into our memory and beliefs result.

When we believe we are expressing a truth applicable for everyone, we are only fooling ourselves and possibly confusing others. We are each personalizing our truth so our interpretations, when sharing, come with various vocabulary and image descriptions.

Only at the center, do we all experience the pure absolute truth. Only through God's love do we taste true communication.
