Fine Arts

What are fine arts? Music, literature, opera, ballet, painting, sculpture, architecture, and decorative arts. Some add other related arts, as well, which offer beauty and aesthetic appeal. Poetry, drawing, dancing, drama, furniture, ceramics and other artistic mediums. Perfume and cooking are also considered fine art.

Our home is filled with paintings by friends and family. They are not famous artists but their works show talent. An aunt took a painting class after she retired from teaching. She filled her home and gave many to friends and family. Sharing her talent offered delight to many.

Pottery, jewelry, basketry, glass blowing, sculpture, photography, wood and leather work are often considered crafts but they can sit in the fine arts category, too. To follow a dream of creative crafting, check with local community resources. Classes are often available through college courses, the YWCA, and adult education, as well.

We often find ourselves daydreaming about what we could love doing. The key, as with any field of endeavor, is to simply turn away from fear and say "yes" to our dream.

There are grants and scholarships available to help pursue various fine arts. Information can be found for these at the library.

Engage yourself in an adult or night class offering your interest. Free yourself from other obligations that hold no appeal. Pursue your dream.

A friend travels for a month every year to attend performances of the arts both in New York City and abroad. She is an elementary school teacher. She invests part of her travel time with her children who live in the East, as well. She chooses various countries to visit and makes preparations to visit her preferences of performances. This is her heartthrob.

Maybe your desire is to make this type of activity available for your children, if the arts are included in their interests. A special fund set aside can encourage regular donations to the cause.

To set aside special finances for any interest, the question must be asked, "How important is this to me? Where is it on my priority list?" It is then a personal responsibility to follow through with aquiring the finances and time necessary.
