My Grandpa John Ed Hicks
This picture was taken in 1980 or 1981 at the Veterans home in Knoxville Iowa. Pa as most everyone called him lived at the veterans home in Knoxville Iowa for several years. Grandpa was true blue no nonsense type person. My Grampa did not like smokeing or drinking and he had three boys which did and one daughter which did. Aunt Ruby never smoked or drank very much. Perhaps that is why her memory is like unbelievable. I mean realy who remembers what they wore for there first day of school. Well she does. Here is the fact sheet.

A note about my Uncles. I never lived with my parents. I was raised by my grandparents. When Grandmother Hicks went to heaven in 1968
I lived for several years with my uncles. Loyd (RED or Uncle BILL) died in 1994. I think of him all the time and miss him much. Bill was not book smart but was one of the smartest people I know in a lot of ways. When he knew he was dying he said "When one gets smart enought to live than its time to die" How true!
