April 29, 1944-The Matsu is commissioned and assigned to Destroyer Squadron 11 for training operations.
July 15, 1944-The Matsu is assigned to Destroyer Division 43, Destroyer Squadron 11.
August 4, 1944-The Matsu is sunk while on convoy escort en route to Japan from Chichi-jima. First, the destroyer was damaged from aircraft launched by Task Group 58.1, then finally sunk by shells from the American destroyers Cogswell, Ingersoll, and Knapp with no Japanese survivors.
