September 7, 1943-The Dace leaves New London for Pearl Harbor, arriving October 3.
October 20, 1943-The Dace leaves on its first war patrol, where the ship would operate around the coast of Honshu and Nagoya.
November 7, 1943-The Dace attacks a freighter, scoring several hits, but failed to sink the ship. The nearby enemy patrol craft halted the submarine from finishing the damaged freighter.
December 11, 1943-The Dace completes its first war patrol, returning to Midway Island for refitting.
January 7, 1944-The Dace’s refit is complete and the ship leaves on its second war patrol, operating near Truk.
January 26, 1944-The Dace reports a tanker with two escorts. The submarine opens fire with a spread of torpedoes, hearing five explosions. The cause of these explosions is not known, since records do not indicate that any of the ships were damaged at all.
February 2, 1944-The Dace enters Tulagi for refueling over the next day, the resumes patrolling near Truk.
February 16, 1944-Over the next two days, Dace covers Truk throughout carrier raids in the area.
February 25, 1944-The Dace arrives in New Guinea for another refit.
March 18, 1944-The Dace leaves on the ships third war patrol.
March 20, 1944-The Dace picks up commandoes at Langemak Bay, then operates on reconnaissance duties near Hollandia, landing the commandoes roughly a week afterwards, then picks the same ones up later at night.
March 27, 1944-The Dace spends a day refueling at Manus, attempting to return to the designated patrol area.
April 10, 1944-The Dace’s patrol dutiesare interrupted when the ship rendezvous with the Scamp, escorting the damaged submarine to Manus, arriving April 16.
May 13, 1944-The Dace returns, having completed the war patrol, and undergoes another refitting.
June 13, 1944-The Dace begins its fourth war patrol.
June 20, 1944-The Dace refuels for a day in Manus, then patrolling around Mindanao.
July 9, 1944-The Dace attacks a tanker, with the two escorting ships dropping numerous depth charges, but with little result.
July 16, 1944-The Dace is operating on a reconnaissance mission into Sarangani Bay.
July 26, 1944-The Dace makes another smoke sighting and begins pursuit, several times being forced to dive to maintain stealth.
July 27, 1944-The Dace regains contact shortly after midnight, launching a torpedo attack on the convoy of 3 merchant ships with a total of six escorts. One ship is sunk, then the escort attempts to ram, forcing the submarine below the surface.
July 31, 1944-The Dace sinks a small freighter, being subjected to a depth charge attack the following day.
August 6, 1944-The Dace enters Manus, having exhausted the supply of torpedoes available.
August 12, 1944-The Dace returns to Brisbane to complete the ships fourth war patrol.
September 1, 1944-The Dace leaves on its fifth war patrol.
September 10, 1944-The Dace refuels at Darwin, then leaves to minesweep the Palawan Passage.
September 27, 1944-The Dace spends six days in Mios Woendi for repairs to the ships gyro, departing on October 3.
October 10, 1944-The Dace resumes station in the designated patrol area.
October 14, 1944-The Dace attacks seven transports, sinking two with a third heavily damaged..
October 23, 1944-The Dace, after having met Darter, makes contact with the Japanese Center Force in the Palawan Passage. Darter attacked first, sinking the cruiser Atago. Afterwards, Dace fired, and despite depth charge attacks, the submarine scored a kill with the cruiser Maya. After the run, while attempting to track the damaged Takao, the Darter ran aground and could not be freed. When the explosives aboard did not detonate as planned, the Dace attempted to torpedo the submarine, but without luck, since the torpedoes hit the ground and exploded before reaching the submarine. After the Darter’s crew was taken aboard, the submarine was forced to dive to avoid a reconnaissance aircraft, which bombed the abandoned submarine.
November 6, 1944-The Dace arrives in Fremantle with the Darter’s crew.
December 2, 1944-The Dace clears Fremantle to begin its sith war patrol, operating near Singapore and Hong Kong, then mines the area near Palau Gambir.
December 16, 1944-The Dace records several loud noises, with one ship having struck a mine in late afternoon.
December 19, 1944-The Dace is depth charged while in preparation for an attack on a convoy. The ship scraped bottom while trying to escape, and during the depth charge attack, was rocked and scraped along the bottom, but managed to surface later, repairing the minor damage and resuming duties, patrolling more northwards.
December 28, 1944-The Dace sinkes the auxiliary Nozaki, also damaging a freighter.
January 17, 1945-The Dace enters Saipan to refuel.
January 28, 1945-The Dace arrives at Pearl Harbor, completing its sixth war patrol. The ship is ordered to the West Coast for an overhaul.
May 25, 1945-The Dace departs Pearl Harbor, beginning its seventh war patrol.
May 29, 1945-The Dace makes a stop at Midway Island for fueling, then leaves to patrol near the Kurile Islands
June 7, 1945-The Dace arrives in its patrol station in the Kurile Islands. While operating in this area, the submarine succeeds in sinking two sailing ships by gunfire before being ordered to the Sea of Okhotsk.
June 10, 1945-The Dace spots a large freighter and a tanker and begins a torpedo run, regardless of the three escorts. The freighter is sunk from a spread fired at 380 yards, then swings for the tanker, but is forced to fire at an escort, unsuccessfully, before diving deep to avoid being rammed.
July 25, 1945-The Dace arrives at Midway, after completing the ships seventh war patrol.
August 13, 1945-The Dace is ordered to Saipan to prepare for the ships eighth war patrol.
August 15, 1945-The Dace returns to Pearl Harbor as a cease-fire order is received.
October 5, 1945-The Dace arrives at New London.
January 15, 1946-The Dace is placed in reserve, but left in commission at Portsmouth Naval Yards, then was towed to New London.
February 12, 1947-The Dace is decommissioned, still in reserve.
August 8, 1951-The Dace operates near New London and the Caribbean Sea.
December 31, 1953-The Dace is again placed in reserve, left in commission.
January 15, 1954-The Dace is again decommissioned, during which time the ship would undergo lengthy modernization. The ship then begins training Italian naval crewers.
January 31, 1955-The Dace is decommissioned and leaves to serve in the Italian Navy as Leonardo Da Vinci.
1972-The Leonardo Da Vinci is scrapped.
