About Me...
Here's some info on me, just in case you all were wondering! My name is Bekki White Feather. I am of Oglala Lakota and Scotch-Irish decent. I currently live in Iowa, however my home will always be the Black Hills (Paha Sapa or He Sapa) in South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, where I left my heart. I am dedicated to preserving Mother Earth, and her natural resources, fighting against prejudice of any kind, Freeing all Native American Political Prisoners, and Keeping in tradition with my ancestors by teaching my children respect for all life. I am a member of the Thunderbirds, an organization that is dedicated to educating the public on actual facts about Native American peoples, including history and present day. Our group does educational programs for churches, community groups and schools. We are a not for profit organization that use the proceeds received from programs to deliver foods, clothing and other needed items to Native People on several Indian Reservations within the United States. Our belief is that all life is created equal.
For the past 10 years I have been a volunteer at Hope Center, which has many programs. Hope center is filled with clothing and household items that are free for those who need them. We have supplied many items to the Thunderbirds for distribution to the Reservations within the united States. We also have a Christmas Giveaway Program that through the help of public and parochial schools within the area we give invitations to under priveledged children and their families so they can come and do christmas shopping for their whole family. We are a United Way member and provide needed items to victims of natural disaster as well.
I was a member of the White Eagle 7th Generation Multi-Cultural Powwow Committee, and helped in the planning of the powwow each year. I also enjoy dancing at many Powwows, where I dance Traditional Women's either cloth or buckskin (depending on the season!). I dance mostly for fun, however I have danced competetion.
I am very interested in humanity, and will continue to be interested in preserving all life forms, human, animal plant and Mother Earth. Remember in the words of our ancestors "Mitakuye Oyasin" We are all related.
