A largely terrestrial bird (Geococcyx californianus) of the cuckoofamily that has a long tail and a crest, is a speedy runner, and rangesfrom the southwestern U.S. to Mexico.

Montezuma Castle National Monument
in central Arizona.It lies in the Verde River Valley immediately northeast ofCamp Verde. Established in 1906, its area is 842 acres (341 ha)and comprises one of the best preserved pre-Columbian Pueblo Indiancliff dwellings in the U.S. The "castle" is a 5-story, 20-room adobe brick structure.
