Leif's Stage III, an extracardiac fontan, was done on April 3, 2002. The procedure took a little less than 5 hours, and all appears to be successful. Leif's intensive care stay was less than 24 hours. On Thursday, the day after surgery, Leif's first set of chest tubes and main lines were pulled and he was sent to the floor. His sats were about 90-95, except in a deep sleep. During deep sleeps, he used blow-by oxygen to keep his sats up. On April 7, 2002, Leif came home. His stutures were removed on April 11, and he had a follow-up appointment with cardiology mid-may.
3 hours after surgery.
One week after fontan, April 10.

WRITTEN PRIOR TO SURGERY:
Leif's stage three surgery is approaching - it sounds like it will be an extra-cardiac fontan, and will happen in March or April. (We're waiting for the call right now to schedule.) (ADDED: MARCH 25 - IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SURGERY WILL BE APRIL 3.) In preparation for stage three, he had a catherization done. The results of the cath are shown in this page, along with a comparison with a "normal" heart.
