Orator’s Mound

Orator’s Mound, so named because a pavilion from which speeches were given once crowed its summit, is a small (5’ high; 45’X39’ at the base) mound located on high ground midway between two branches of yellow Springs Creek, 1.4 miles north of its confluence with the little Miami river. Yellow springs, a perpetually flowing mineral spring, rises 550’ northwest of the mound. Part of Orator’s Mound has been excavated, and evidence recovered indicates that it represents the late Adena period. Orator’s Mound, also known as Glen Helen Mound, lies about 20’ south of the Inman Nature Trail in Glen Helen.

Directions: From U.S. route 68 in Yellow Springs, follow Ohio route 343 E about 750’, then S on old stage road 500’, then continue S about 1,000’ beyond where old stage road departs to SE.
