Williams Mound

The Williams Mound also known as the Dixon Mound, is a privately owned feature lying within the village of Homer in north-central Licking County. This single, conical mound is 15’ high and has a basal diameter of 80’; it is located on an upland site not far from a bluff that descends to the floodplain of North Fork of Licking River. It is presently covered with low growing vegetation and a few small trees. The mound has not been excavated, so the cultural identity of its builder can not be confirmed. The size, shape, and context of the mound, however, suggest that it is probably an Adena burial mound and, if so, it is one of only a few such features remaining in Licking County. This mound can not be seen easily from municipal streets in Homer.

Directions: Follow Ohio route 661 14 miles N from Grandville or 9 miles S from South Vernon (located 1 mile S of Mt. Vernon), to the center of Homer, then W on licking county route 19 (homer rd. N.W.) for .35 mile, then SE onto South Street (witch intersects route 19 at an oblique angle). The mound is on the S side of South Street behind the large yellow house.

Public use: Private property, Obtain permission from the landowner before entering the property.
