Mother's Easter
Rug
Mother, standing on the stairs,
Viewed the front room rug so bare:
"My, the chicken and egg money
Won't stretch as far as it might
To help get the things we need so
much."
Dad, looking up from his paper,
Read Armstrong's rugs on sale:
"Come in. Let us show these
bargains.
Cost not a cent to deliver them
now."
Then smiling to himself as he rocks to
and fro:
"Now that's just the thing for Easter
for Mom, I know."
So gathering himself together and
donning his coat,
He drives up the Chevy, to Armstrong's
he goes.
He picks out the prettiest pattern he
can find,
Tells them to tie it on his
Chevy-39.
As he drives homeward bound he
thinks:
"Now what a lovely surprise on Easter
for Mom,"
So while she is out gathering
The eggs from the barns and sheds,
He and the kiddies proceed to lay this
brand new rug
For Mom before Easter Sunday.
