About Spotted Eagle Horse, Who am I?

Who do I THINK I am?

My full name is Julie Spotted Eagle Horse Martineau, and I am a mother to 5 beautiful children Justin Martineau, Martinique Martineau, Mitchell Martineau, Amanda Fisher, and Logan Cooper. Of the 5, only Logan and Amanda are mine, the other 3 are my step kids, although I think of them as my own! Amanda and Logan will someday carry on the traditions of our hunkapi people, the Sioux Nation.

I am a Women's Traditional Buckskin Dancer in the Northern Plains style, and I have taken first place in various dance competitions,as well as a Princess contest at a small local powow. My sister Bekki and I are also the 2007 Co-Champion Potato dancers for Credit Island, and Matt (husband) and I are the Champion Potato Dancers for the 2008 Thunderbirds Gathering at the 24th Annual Bald Eagle Appreciation Days in Keokuk, IA. I am also the Ladie's Champion Switch Dancer! Whoo hoo! A great start to 2008!
I am an accomplished re-enactor, and attend rendezvous as often as I can.

I have bred and trained fine Native American Registered horses, and Paints at my farm, Eagle Wings Farms, but am currently horseless.

In July of 1999, I was the victim of a random lightning strike, and was lucky enough to come away with minor physiolgogial and neural damage. According to the legends of the Lakota, I am now marked by the Wakinyan, or Thunderbeings as one of their own, and must "do time" as a Heyoka, or Contrary, the sacred clowns who do certain things backwards.

On Febuary 14, 1999 my beatuiful and vibrant sister Toni Night Eagle Martinez was murdered while she was asleep in her bed. I guess that Tunkasila did not have enough people in the spirit world to make him laugh, so he took our sister. I WILL see her killer brought to justice, somehow, some day.

I hope that you will enjoy my page, and will come back to see what changes I have made. Mitakuye Oyasin, We are all related.

Some Powow ettiquite, the women ALWAYS dance on the inside of the arena. Men always dance on the outside. Eagle Feathers are wakan, or sacred things, and a woman must never touch a man's feathers or regalia without permission, as it is bad luck to do so.

The same goes for a man touching a woman's regalia. If a woman asks a man to use her shawl durring a reversal or hat shawl dance, and he refuses, he must either pay her a set amount of money, or give her a piece of his regalia!

The info here is pretty sketchy, but this site IS under construction! If you have any questions or corrections, PLEASE mail me and let me know!
