The Story of the Painter
As told to me many years ago.
Retold by: Painted Turtle
One fall day, when cold was coming near.
Waya sat and looked around and saw that everything
was so green and needed the colors of the great wind added to them.
So the next morning he started to paint the some of the leaves on all the trees
with the Great Spirits help. The first day he painted all the color red.
He work very hard to get all the red on the trees leaves.
When he was done he saw that it was beautiful.
So he decided to carry on the next day.
On the next day he painted some of them the orange.
Hard work was good and the colors were beautiful.
When he was finished the Mother Earth was more beautiful with her color.
So he decided to add some yellow the next day and work hard again all day long.
Much to his surprise after adding the red, orange, and yellow on the tree leaves,
he notice that a touch of green look beautiful with all the color.
Due to this he decided to let the pine trees stay green.
He saw that the animals of the earth enjoyed it also,
and he then decided to do the painting every year.
That is why, still today we have color in the fall of the year,
with the red, orange, yellow, and the green.
I am glad that Waya decided to paint the trees,
it is so beautiful this time of year, and all enjoys the beauty of it all.
So for all out there. If you do not take time to look at the trees of color.
Please do so this year!
