Travel Plans
While the final itinerary is yet to be established, it will be similar to those experienced by previous jamboree contingents from the Hawkeye Area Council. The biggest change from previous jamboree trips will be our form of transportation. In the past, we have flown round-trip to Washington, D.C. However, due to various reasons, including cost, we will be using charter busses for transportation. While in Washington, we will stay at a hotel for 5 nights. During our stay in the nation’s capital, we will tour the Smithsonian Institution, the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument plus other attractions such as FBI Headquarters, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the White House and the Holocaust Museum. Also being planned is a day trip to a nearby attraction such as the Gettysburg Battlefield, Historic Williamsburg or the Atlantic Coast. On July 24th we will be bussed to the Jamboree site at Ft. A.P. Hill, Virginia, and will camp there until August 3rd. We plan to arrive back in Cedar Rapids on August 4th.
