The GP60M's are among my favorite Santa Fe engines. 104 is one of a very few left with full ATSF paint.
This train stopped in the station to allow a northbound Surfliner to cross over ahead of it, and it made for an excellent photo opportunity.
I couldn't pass up a chance to shoot this train again, so I drove over to Valencia where it parallels the tracks a little ways. Besides lead 104, all the other units were 4-axle as well, once common on the old Santa Fe but fairly rare now on BNSF.
Looking almost as good as the day she rolled off the production line, only an A-B-B-A consist could have made me happier.
On another trip to the station, I encountered this rail grinder parked on the event tracks. This one was quite small compared to the other ones I've seen and it was extremely clean. I walked all around it and saw the zirconium grinding stones that they used. Looking though the front windshield, the operators chair and room looked like something you might find on the space shuttle.
