The Pasadena Local is the last operation on a once very busy former ATSF mainline. This was once ATSF's Second Sub, otherwise known as the Pasadena Subdivision. In its heyday it was the passenger line, while most of the freight ran via Fullerton. In the early 1990's, Santa Fe began to shift almost all of it's traffic off of this line and onto its Fullerton line. The Second Sub was sold to the SCRRA (Southern California Regional Rail Authority), the holding company that is responsible for the aquisition and maintenance of track for Metrolink. Today, the line no longer makes it all the way to Los Angeles. The main customer on the line is a Miller beer plant, which needs daily switching.
The Pasadena Local typically rates three ex-ATSF geeps. This is in Claremont
The local passes the old Azusa station. This was once a stop for Santa Fe's big name passenger trains.
