Federal Signal Model 5 restoration

I am pleased to say that I'm now the proud owner of a Federal Signal Model 5. I purchased it on E-bay for 35.00 with controls (no shipping cost because I picked it up myself). Here's the specs. single toned, 12 ports, Type NV225X, Phase 3, Volts 220, HP 5, RPM 3400, F.L Amps 18, Serial number, R464076. It belonged to Harmonville Fire Company #1 in Plymouth Meeting, PA (they now have a brand new STH-10).

Pics from loading in PA to unloading in CT

facing the siren you can see the mounting base is broken in half
looking at the side of the siren gives you a better idea of the condition of the housing
loading the siren and upper half of the housing (eyebolt was forzen)onto the truck I rented
he bottom half of the housing before being loaded
the controler (possibly a tone decoder)
the ladder truck used to load the siren onto my truck
all loaded and secured time to hit the road
me halfway home in NJ
me and my step-dad (in the blue) slowly wheeling the siren into the garage
finally getting it into the garage
the STH-10 that replaced the 5

restoration pic

this shot shows the busted base (note the wood under the broken half), the lower grease fitting and the wires without the electrical box
the housing down to the bare metal put together. this is one of many styles the Model 5's housing had over the years
this is how far I've gotten on the underside of the upper half. there was a flaking layer of greenish paint there. I still have to sand some spots by hand
this is how far I'v gotten on the lower half. I got the upper side of the cowl down to the bare metal and was in the process of removing the rust from the inside and the underside when it got too cold to do anymore work
this shows the rot on the lower housing as well as the maintence door to access the grease fittings. I plan on patching what I can and cutting off the real bad parts and replacing with new sheet metal
this is the electrical box after I hacked it off with a chisel. in case you were wondering yes it broke but I'll try to repair it (the pieces are large) if not I'll just replace it.
