ANARCHIST ANTI-DEFAMATION ALLIANCE

The AADA is an alliance of anarchists, sympathetic academics and professionals, who fight to combat media prejudice against political anarchism and its misrepresentation in news coverage.

We are primarily concerned with insuring that misinformation regarding the nature of anarchism does not find its way into media coverage through ignorance. With this aim in mind we publish informative texts on our website and are willing to correspond with and educate media organizations.

We are also concerned with allegations of deliberate disinformation.

A third area of concern is the use of misleading language in the media. While we do not wish to become some form of language police, we are seriously concerned with the connotations of certain expressions. In particular the use of the misleading terms 'anarchy' or 'anarchist' when 'chaos' or 'criminal' might be more suitable. We recognize there is a legitimate non-political use of these terms but feel that, given the lack of accurate information about anarchism in most media coverage, such ambigous use is misleading, and could sometimes be intepreted as propagandist.

The aim of the AADA is to remove ignorance and misinformation regarding anarchism from all media channels. In this respect we act as an educational body. Legal action may be initiated in extreme circumstances however.

The AADA is an informal anarchist association based in London with supporters worldwide. We are also keen to encourage the creation of autonomous international affiliates.
