equality is dead,
long live equality!

equality may no longer be a fashionable idea, but it still lives on, even within the thoughts of it critics.

equality was once seen as an absolute value, but today such spectres of the enlightenment have been exorcised from contemporary thought. though they may sometimes be still found haunting heroic alamos of politics.

but ironically, if absolutism is dead then real equality takes centre stage. not the idiocy of relativism, that disguised form of absolutism, but suspension of judgement and true respect.

equality is not boring...

anarchist equality is not some external value that we sacrifice ourselves to, it arises from our  aspirations to be of equal value to those who would raise themselves above us, and a hatred of fixed hierarchy.

real equality is not about being 'fair' ,
it is about getting even, and a passionate solidarity with the other, we are all an other to another. common 'man'?
another totalising absolute!

equality does not mean dreary sameness.  true equality is the equality of difference. nietzsche was right to fear populist massification and mediocrity, but wrong to see this as an inevitable result of egalitarianism.
