The amputee is the third short movie Lynch did, now together with Frederick Elmes on camera. It's shot during his
days at the American Film Institute. It shows a legless woman (which is played by Catherine Coulson, better known
as the Log Lady from Twin Peaks) who is writing a letter.
The film was made with the use of some material that was given to Frederick Elmes for testing its quality. In stead of doing so,
Lynch convinced him to shoot a short movie.
