Science Fiction & Fantasy Role Playing GamesInterested in joining a message-board based, science fiction or fantasy RPG? Below are brief descriptions of five that are open to new players and characters, regardless of experience or level. If you want to visit one to take a look around, a link is provided. 
HerridonHerridon is a free-form fantasy (no dice) rpg set in an original world. The characters in Herridon are restricted to being human, and magic is a relatively unknown force in the world. It does exist, but only to select few. The Kingdom of Herridon is established, but the lands outside of it are open to any who would wish to create a new country. (Previous rules do apply, must be human and minimal magic used.) There is no central plot to Herridon, but the game moves in whichever direction the players wish to take it, allowing them to bring in their own plots. An ideal place to work on character development and fill in "past histories" of characters used in other campaigns.
MagefireMagefire is a free-form fantasy RPG with central plots for both the "good guys" and the "bad guys". Players are allowed to play a character on either side (or both--you can play more than one), and the plots will eventually weave together to form a conclusion. The world of Magefire is inhabited by all "traditional" fantasy species (elves, trolls, humans, etc.) and relies heavily on the use of magic and typical fantasy RPG classes (Rangers, Mages, etc.) Players should be warned: This RPG is run by two GM's and death is a very real possibility in this game.
NorthmarchNorthmarch is a branch off game set in the world of Herridon (above). The land of Northmarch lies to the north of the Kingdom of Herridon, and is a harsh, brutal land inhabited by unforgiving gods and the creatures they have created. Also a free-form game, this has a central plot (of sorts) but is open to what new players wish to bring to it. The same rules apply for Northmarch as far as character race and ability as for Herridon. The background is strikingly Viking for those in the land, and promises the brutality and war of that period in history. Expect your characters to be double-crossed in this game.
Alpha BangarisAlpha Bangaris is a free-form science fiction rpg. Alien and human races are welcome, and special emphasis is placed on the underground atmosphere. Players are welcome to play characters on either side of the law, and within either of the established governments.
The Broken LandsThe Broken Lands is a free-form fantasy RPG with three different settings to play in within the same land. Characters should be human, and special abilities are strictly limited. You need to survive by your wits in this game.
