CR TREVOR MOTT's 10 POINT PLAN FOR THE CITY - ACTIVE COMMUNITY TEAM - 2002 LORD MAYORAL BY ELECTION POLICY STATEMENTS

Local government is not just about the 3R's - it is the 4R's, 3 E's, the P and the I, according to ACT Team Cr Trevor Mott, and these underpin his 10 point plan for Wollongong.

1. "My vision of Wollongong is a thriving region, of safe communities, with job opportunities, a beautiful environment and a great lifestyle"

2. "An open, honest, accountable Council with integrity and sound financial management - cleaning up the current mess - I want council to get out into the suburbs - to hold at least one meeting in each ward each year - and to listen to groups from the community at those meetings."

3. "A community focused Council committed to Community Consultation - I will hold regular Lord Mayoral village square meetings in the major centres across the city and strengthen consultation between the Lord Mayor office and the workforce"

4. "Strong focus and increased funding on Back to basics and the suburbs - roads, footpaths, kerbing & guttering, parks, pools, sporting, culture and leisure facilities - not obsessed CBD monuments, nor obsessed with contracting out of council services at all costs on an ideological basis"

5. "Environment Protection - protection of our unique special boundaries - the Escarpment, our Beaches, the Royal National Park & Lake Illawarra - controls on escarpment, beachfronts and high rise development - I will institute a moratorium on escarpment and coastal development until the Carr ALP State Government legislates effective escarpment and coastal protection - and honours its 1987 Heathcote By Election promises on introducing such coastal protection legislation and supplying $3 million in 1987 dollars to acquire sensitive escarpment land."

6. "Community involvement in town planning - sensible town planning policies - place based planning to avoid medium density overdevelopment furores - gain an exemption from SEPP 5 medium density developments in environmentally sensitive locations"

7. "Local representation - we need to have a local focus in local government - not dominated by big party politics - I believe that we need a candidates code of conduct."

8. "Fair go for all & addressing the needs of individual groups - incl. extending the pensioner rebate - and a focus on Job creation for our youth"

9. "Improved infrastructure & services- BongBong Rd Dapto; better, faster train service to Sydney Metropolitan area; upgrade shopping centres - starting with Dapto and Thirroul"

10. "A whole of city strategic economic development focus that does not prejudice our natural environment"

"I believe that Wollongong is .....A great place to live... A great place to work, to study, to relax."
