    Lake Macquarie High School

    http://www.lakemacquarie.hs.education.nsw.gov.au/aerosol.htm Aerosol Products Policy -

    Rationale:

Owing to the serious nature of the allergic reactions of members of the Lake Macquarie High School community to aerosol products such as deodorants, hair spray and body spray the school community is banning these products.

    Aim:

To ensure the health and safety of Lake Macquarie High School students. Implementation:

Aerosol products are not to be brought onto the school grounds. Students are asked to use pump sprays instead of aerosol cans, or use liquid or paste forms of products. Pressurized aerosol products emit unnecessary volatile organic chemicals and produce a fine mist that is easily inhaled and absorbed into the lungs and bloodstream. Teachers have been asked to confiscate any aerosol products found at school and bring them to the Deputy Principal. Parents will be informed that the products have been collected from their child and that they can call into the school and collect the product. Products will not be returned to students. Please support us to ensure the safety of all our students.

    AEROSAL SPRAY CANS

It is school policy that aerosol cans including deodorants and perfumes must not be brought to school, in the interest of safety for all students.

    http://www.asthmafoundation.org.au/uploadedFiles/Content/About_Asthma/Resources/NSW%20Board%20of%20Studies%20Curriculum.pdf

Identifies the effects of their decisions on themselves, others and the environment, eg. smoking, recycling / Describes certain behaviours that can create a safe environment for themselves, their school and community demonstrates ways to improve unsafe environments, eg. home, school, local parks Can look at smoking but also other asthma triggers that they can influence. For example pollution, use of aerosol deodorants and perfumes

    http://www.maitland.hs.education.nsw.gov.au/ASSETS/Downloads/Newsletters/2009/Newsletter%20April%2009.pdf

Just a reminder to parents/carers that aerosol sprays are banned at MHS. Increasing rates of allergic reactions (some very serious) have meant that aerosol sprays cannot be used at Maitland High School. Students are well aware of this long standing rule. Currently aerosol spray deodorants are causing concern. Some students, who become worried about body odour following PDHPE or sport, use aerosol deodorant. This is a serious breach of school rules and risks causing injury to other students A range of sanctions apply including in the first instance confiscation of the spray. Repeated breaches will attract very serious consequences. It is strongly recommended that students wishing to apply deodorant at school purchase and use the “roll on” type.

    AEROSOL DEODORANTS

This is a reminder that aerosol deodorants are not to be brought to school. The use of these can trigger asthma attacks. There has been incident of this kind this term already. Please talk to your son/daughter if they are in the habit of bringing them to school.

    http://www.mackillop.tas.edu.au/docs/newsletter/10-10-13a.pdf

As the warmer weather approaches, a number of students choose to use deodorants aft er PE lessons. I ask parents’ support in providing non-aerosol deodorants as a number of our students are asthmatic and the aerosal propellant can lead to an asthma attack.

    Aerosol Cans

Could parents please ensure that their children do not bring aerosol deodorant cans to school. Roll on and other non CFC products are fine. It is Department policy that we do not use aerosol products in the school.

    Aerosol deodorants

We have had several incidents where spray deodorants, particularly the Lynx brand, have been used at school and have caused severe reactions in some members of our school community who suffer from asthma and other allergies. Therefore, we have made it very clear to all students that aerosol deodorants are banned from Crookwell High School as they pose a serious health risk to those who suffer from such conditions. I ask that parents please reinforce this message at home and encourage your children to use a roll-on deodorant in preference to aerosols. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

AEROSOL CANS AT SCHOOL Children should not bring aerosol cans to school. A number of students have severe asthma conditions and aerosol deodorant propellants can potentially trigger a serious attack.

    http://www.calwellhs.act.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0014/74120/Microsoft_Word_-_HANDBOOK_2009_year_71.pdf

Please ensure that students do not bring aerosol deodorant to school. This can cause medical problems for students and staff who are sensitive to chemical substances contained therein.

    http://www.morayfieshs.eq.edu.au/newsletters/30th%20March.pdf

Also, due to recent events, students are reminded that aerosol deodorant is not permitted at school – pump packs or roll on deodorant is acceptable.

Aerosol (Deodorant) Spray: Some children may need to apply deodorant as the weather warms up. Please note that aerosol sprays are not allowed at school. This is a WH&S directive. Roll-on deodorants are quite acceptable.

    http://seafordhs.sa.edu.au/page0/files/Seaford%202010%20Newsletter%2006.pdf

Aerosol Can Deodorants Aerosol deodorants are banned at school because of the severe health effects

they cause for other students and staff who have asthma. In an enclosed space an aerosol deodorant spray can have a rapid effect and bring on a major asthma attack in a matter of seconds. Because we care about the health and wellbeing of all members of the school community, aerosol deodorants are not to be brought to school; an acceptable alternative is a roll-on deodorant. Harry Stassinopoulos, Deputy Principal

In the changerooms, Aerosol deodorant is not permitted, as it can trigger asthma attacks. Please bring and use roll on deodorant.
