The Active Community Team last night lost an 11th hour bid to put the finances of Lord Mayor George Harrison under the microscope.
Councillor Kerrie Christian's call for a detailed report into the financial situation of Harrison family company Emibarb - which owns the lease on the razed Lagoon restaurant - failed to win support.
Instead, councillors agreed to a call from Cr Vicky King for a more general report into the proposed reconstruction."
Cr Kerrie Christian had submitted the following notice of motion to be dealt with at Wollongong Council's meeting of August 26 2002.
"That a report be provided to the September round of Council/committee meetings on the current situation with regard to Emibarb and the Lagoon restaurant insurance and reconstruction programs in the context of the financial status of close family members of the directors of Emibarb and the ability of Emibarb to secure the necessary additional $1 million bank financing needed to restore the Lagoon restaurant, and the implications for Emibarb being able to meet the terms of the current lease term left to run and the extended lease term, and the options available to council should such financing not be available."
Authorised Cr Kerrie Christian - August 14 2002
