The Search

Quinn pours over old tomes and manuscripts in the library at her abandoned monastary home. Dust covers the tables and books, and the golden flecks drift serenely in and out of the sunlight leaking through the blinds over the windows. Misery feels the warmth on her pale skin... Sunlight...? Morning already? Quinn shakes her head. All night... all night searching, and no sign... not even the inkling of a clue as to how she can help her friend.

Katja... Miserys necklace blazes and she slams the current book closed. Tears prick her faded blue eyes and she folds her arms on the table resting her head in them. She would find a way to help her friend... She had to.

Quinn shudders, thinking of her encounter with Katja... No that... that was not Katja... whatever that was, that was NOT my Kat... She shakes her head. Nightblood... There had been three conflicting auras in Katja that night, and one of them was... Nightblood. Quinn shudders again.

The empty sensation was returning... as if someone was burning a hole in her stomach... sometimes it felt like if she looked down, she should be able to see through her middle. Pen had been gone for two days now, but it felt like two months... two years... A growl rises in Quinns throat, muffled by her arms. Tristian would pay. Yes. He would pay for taking her souls companion.

Slowly, the half demon lifts her head, resting her chin on her hands. A bitter sigh plays on her trembling lips and a single tear rolls down her cheek. Pen... My Pen... Unconciously she reaches up to touch her mothers necklace, the blue stone amidst silver serpents. A cold glow flickers inside the stone, and Misery shivers, taking no comfort in the relic from her past. Pen had... banished her mothers soul somehow. Pen had set her free, and now... he was gone. He was gone...

The tears fall faster, and she mutters angrily to herself, "Crying like a fool child isnt going to bring him back, Misery. You must keep going for those you CAN help."

Fiercely she scrubs away the tears and resumes her search in the library for any bit of information to help her heart-sister, for now shoving the pain of losing her soulmate to the back of her mind.
