Royal Castle
Hohenschwangau
The Parental
Home of King Ludwig II.
Erected by
King Maximillian II, as a summer residence on the ruins of a fortress
built by the knights of Schwangau in the 12th century.
The original
furnishings from the time of building 1836 recreate the aura of his epoch.
Medals and
decorations conferred on the Royal Family are on display in the billiard room. The wall paintings,
designed by Mortiz von Schwind and painted by his students, will take you
into the realm, of history and legend.
In the music
room you see the piano on which Richard Wagner played and have a glimpse
of the musical world of King Ludwig II.
Feel the
romantic dreams of his majesty under the starry canopy in his bedroom.
In these
rooms the past becomes the present.
Don’t miss seeing the gothic jewel, which is
testimony to a great past.
