And now for some background info on David Boreananz...
He's as arresting in person as he is on camera. Very kind, very gracious.
David was born in Buffalo, New York, grew up in Philadelphia, and graduated form Ithica College in New York before moving to LA to try his luck in acting. His luck, it must be noted, at first didn't seem to be all that good. He parked cars, painted houses, and handed out towels at a sports club. He did some local theatre work and managed a guest spot on a single episode of Married...With Children. But his big break came when he was spotted by a manager while walking his dog if front of the man's home. He called Marcia Shulman and as soon as David walked in she knew he was the guy.
As an actor he is intense and focused. Off the set however, he has earned a bit of a reputation as a wiseguy.
Both sides, angel and devil. Or, if you prefer, Angel and Angelus. Which brings us to the question of David's preference: which of his character's personae has he most enjoyed portraying?
"There are pluses and minuses to each," he points out. "With Angel's good side, I wasn't really exploring as much, as far as his being outgoing as I wanted to be. But I know when i go back to being good, then i'll have learned from that. I think they both balance each other out pretty well...Yeah, I've done some bad things."
Bad things, perhaps, but that's Angel. David's intensity tells you he's capable of that, but mention his dog, Bertha Blue, and he turns into a softie, sad that he must leave her at home.
"It's terrible. Terrible," he says. "Sometimes I bring my dog on the set. It is hard: she's in the trailer and you don't want to bring her out and you are afraid she might run away. But it is good to come home and see her all happy. [To know that] she is okay.
"I've had her about 4 years. She has her own house. She has one ear that goes up and one ear that goes down. She has been lost many times, but she has always found her way home, or I've found her. She's got a collar on and tags; so she'll come up somewhere eventually. I just don't stress. I home in on her."
